  • Coach and Horses, Buckland Brewer. Busy village pub. Excellent pub food plus great selection of home cooked specials and whopping desserts. Real ales. Booking strongly advised, especially at weekends as dining here is popular with locals. The busy barman, Ollie, is used to Robin Hill Farm guests! 3 miles (Dog Friendly

  • Morans, Westward Ho! Open from lunch to dinner. No kids after 6pm for the excellent Thai menu; also serves Steaks and Cocktails. Stylish interior, busy, recommend booking. Well deserved top Trip Advisor ranking. 4 miles

  • The Seagate, Appledore. Tastefully reburbished open plan bar plus dining area. Very good home-cooked food and well kept real ale. Menu ranges from Fish & Chips or Burger to Steaks or Seabass. Great service. Gets busy, plenty of outdoor seating (Dog Friendly bar where you can eat food). 6 miles

  • East of the Water, Bideford. Superb Hong Kong Chinese – the specials are often unusual and very good. Licensed. Takeaways collect only. 3 miles

  • Mariners, Bideford. Good quality bar and estaurant in the middle of town – nice selection of meat eg Beef Wellington and fish eg home made Fish Cakes. Vegetables are extra. Great service. 3 miles

  • The Thatched Inn, Abbotsham. Local village pub, modern pub grub menu, Sunday Carvery. 3 miles (Dog Friendly bar)

  • Hoops Inn, Horns Cross. Traditional thatched pub with roaring fires. Good menu using locally sourced ingredients. 4 miles (Dog Friendly)

  • The Boathouse Restaurant, Instow. Very busy restaurant and bar with great views over the River Torridge. Advisable to book early for the restaurant – you cannot book to eat in the bar so get there early! Vast menu of fish and some meat dishes. Large portions and good service. 6 miles

  • Instow Arms, Instow. Next door to The Boathouse. Well stocked bar and good home cooked food ranging from light bites thru main menu to Sunday roast. Very friendly staff. 6 miles (Dog Friendly).

  • The Royal Plaice, Appledore. Smart Fish and Chips restaurant with a range of fish and pub across the road. Also does takeaways. 6 miles

If you are looking for a top end chef restaurant, North Devon has a few very good ones. We can heartily recommend Michelin Starred The Masons Arms, Knowstone; Damien Hirst’s The Quay, Ilfracombe; Thomas Carr at The Olive Room, Ilfracombe; The Coach House by Michael Caines at Kentisbury Grange
